About the project
Duet is a romantic short animation scored entirely for full orchestra. Recorded during an orchestral workshop, it was my first experience of scoring an animation using a full orchestral ensemble.
I shaped the score around the emotional development of the story, using different orchestration techniques and instrumental combinations to create contrast between different stages of the narrative. A key part of the process was giving each character their own musical language. Individual melodic and orchestral ideas were developed for each character, allowing their personalities and emotional relationships to emerge through the orchestra without relying on dialogue. As the story develops, these musical ideas interact and evolve alongside the characters, creating a sense of continuity and reflecting the development of their relationship.
